History records a conversation which Emperor Gaozu had with Pei Ji10 soon after coming to power. The emperor says: [i]n the end the collapse of the Sui was due to the deceit practiced on each other by both high and low officials, the emperor’s own arrogance and complacency, the fawning attitude of his advisers and their failure, in terms of loyalty, to criticize the emperor’s mistakes. All these things brought about the destruction of the dynasty and the emperor with it. Whereas, I (Emperor Gaozu) have brought order out of chaos, to the satisfaction of the officials. In rebellious times military officials are needed to restore order, but times of peace call for civilian officials. In this way each can exploit their respective talents and so errors can be corrected.” (Old Book of Tang: Biography of Sun Fuqie – Jiutangshu: Sun Fu Jia Zhuan)

All Things Not So Rosy for PH in Selangor

Image
By Stephen Ng All things are not as rosy for Pakatan Harapan as politicians would have us think, even as the coalition looks set to win in the coming General Election at the federal level.             Because of the various scandals involving former Prime Minister, Najib Abdul Razak and the still unresolved 1MDB scandal, the entire court cluster involving billions of Ringgit, and now the littoral combat ships another RM9 billion, most people are already expressing their disgust with Umno, especially since the Covid pandemic had left many in the middle-income group (M40) to slide into the B40 category.   PH can win handsomely at the federal level, provided it is able to work in cooperation with the various Opposition parties in East Malaysia. This is the most crucial time for PH if it wants to be given a second chance to form the new government. Most people do not want the court cluster to go scots-free neither do they want under-performing ministers from PH’s previous governm

What is Road Sign for?

Image
Pause a minute, and take a good look at the picture. Can you see the road sign if you are a visitor to the area? This road sign was placed here by the Selayang Municipal Council (MPS), supposedly to show you the direction to the housing estate.           I can understand if this is the only road sign that appears "hidden" but a second road sign is also installed at a place that is not obvious to outsiders. Because there are two junctions entering into this housing estate, visitors would have to drive a few hundred metres before they see the second road sign. This roadsign is installed at the junction turning into Permai. Two reflective mirrors are placed just beside the road and serve no purpose, instead of putting them at the dangerous junction requested by residents.           Several other road signs and two reflective mirrors meant for dangerous junctions are also placed in some strange -- rather than strategic -- places that only monkeys get to use. It should

This is what politicians are good at -- whether PH or BN, the same

This is what politicians are good at.          The councillor Calvin Cheong, appointed by Tony Pua (MP of Damansara) in my zone told me to get 50 residents to agree with me before he would remove these two humps.          This was after I asked him, "Who built these humps? Why are they there in the first place? Why is there a necessity for two humps here when there is already a security bar to stop traffic?"         Two humps built at the entrance and exit of the security guard house are simply ridiculous. Even if they are meant to slow down traffic, does he even know this is the exit and entrance of a junction? There is already a bar which is controlled by the security guards. Would any cars be dashing through this road at the speed of 110km/hr?            When I pointed out that the humps are built too high, and the mark in the middle already shows that the hump has hit a number of cars with low deck, his answer was:           This is the screenshot which I showed to Gobi

Petan
