What is Road Sign for?

Pause a minute, and take a good look at the picture. Can you see the road sign if you are a visitor to the area? This road sign was placed here by the Selayang Municipal Council (MPS), supposedly to show you the direction to the housing estate.

I can understand if this is the only road sign that appears "hidden" but a second road sign is also installed at a place that is not obvious to outsiders. Because there are two junctions entering into this housing estate, visitors would have to drive a few hundred metres before they see the second road sign.

This roadsign is installed at the junction turning into Permai. Two reflective mirrors are placed just beside the road and serve no purpose, instead of putting them at the dangerous junction requested by residents.

Several other road signs and two reflective mirrors meant for dangerous junctions are also placed in some strange -- rather than strategic -- places that only monkeys get to use. It should not surprise you that some people are monkeying around with wastages public funds.

The lackaidaisical attitude of  MPS and many of the councils in Selangor has not changed since Barisan Nasional era. The state of neglect by MPS affects the people's life everyday.

What irks me the most is that after two years of writing letters to (a) MPS engineering department (b) MPS president (c) councillors Ng Wei Keong (past) and Calvin Cheong Heng Wai (present) (d)state assemblyman Elizabeth Wong (e) Member of Parliament Damansara Tony Pua (f) State Exco Ng Sze Han (g) Menteri Besar Aminuddin Shaari, no one has done anything till now. I had promised them that I would kickstart a campaign if things do not improve.

Public Sentiments about PH in Selangor

Now, I can understand public sentiments AND I have to say that Pakatan Harapan (PH) has been given 2+1 terms in Selangor, The first two terms were sufficient for it to clean up the mess, and by the third term, we expected to see improvement.

From those who, in their first term elected as state government in Selangor, were gung-ho about administering the state, what we now have are people who no longer have a passion for the state.

It is no wonder that complainants have given up on both the local councils and the state government. Even though there is no better government that can take over at this point yet, PH runs into the risk of losing badly in the coming general election. After all, they have to learn that no one is indispensable. No one is invincible. Never think that PH will be forever in power in the Selangor state government unless they buck up now.

After a senior DAP leader from Selangor contacted me, and subsequently, I was told by another senior leader from DAP Perak that there would be a meeting with the state exco in charge of local government, I am looking forward to tell him that if he continues to let the local councils operate business-as-usual, more people will express their frustration using their votes. Till now, there is not even a 10-min phone call by any of his staff. Very busy?

Or, they may from time to time complain to the media. But media can only cover a few stories. At the end of the day, the more outspoken ones like me would have to take their stories to the blog. What is worse is that those in power do not get to hear their complaints spoken in coffee shops amongst friends.

If no one speaks up now, things will and can only get worse. After all, the local council staff and councillors appointed by political parties will continue to receive their income, since no action can be taken against them.

At the end of the day, it is the Rakyat who suffer.
