Enough evidence

Selayang Municipal Council staff seem to have plenty of time to create issues and revisiting them two or three times before finding a solution.

This leads to unnecessary wastages doing things again after demolishing the original structures— be it a hump, a roadside drain to channel rainwater accumulating on roads into a nearby monsoon drain or just a yellow box at the junction.

I asked for a hump to be built here around 2008 when Khairuddin Othman was the state assemblyman and PAS was part of the Pakatan Harapan  coalition.

Instead, when I returned home, I was shocked to see the hump was built at a blind spot. Plus, another double humps were built near the guard house, which were problematic as they were too high and one of them had to be subsequently removed three years ago after several years of campaigning.

BLIHD SPOT: Motorists will slow down as they approach the hump, but immediately after that, they will hit the gas pedal to accelerate as they turn right. Yet, till now, the YDP and the Engineering Chief have not done anything to shift the hump to the right position, while the DAP local councillor asked us to get 50 signatures if we wanted humps removed.😡

Instead of solving problems, both the YDP and the engineering chief were fully aware that, owing to low traffic flow, this particular stretch of road and its humps were still in good condition.

Yet, I find it puzzling why the funds supposedly allocated by the Ministry of Housing and Local Government were used to resurface this stretch, while two other humps—which I had been raising concerns about for years—were not even included in the contract. Money spent on resurfacing road that is still in good condition is an absolute waste of public funds. The remaining two humps were not resolved despite complaint made to Gobind Singh, who promised he would get them to do it later. Now, they could have done it back then when they use all the machinery and manpower.

Similarly they could have done a proper job recently instead of just putting another layer of tar over what they already knew was too high.

The contractor did not bother because to him, it will be a second job to fix the humps later. But, it took another few months later after knocking at the doors of very senior people at the federal level. It should not even involve them if the local and state governments are doing their jobs.

What was worse is despite taking one whole morning to explain to Deputy Prime Minister’s special officer, I was also disappointed that he just skimmed the surface. His letter to the council president was  only superficially addressing a fraction of the issues, neglecting the core issues that I raised. The response from the council president therefore lacked the thorough engagement my letter warranted. That led to another one or two months of frustration.

No wonder MCA, despite its younger cohort, lacks individuals genuinely capable of resolving issues. He ought to have learnt a hard lesson from his defeat in the last general election. Had he proven effective in addressing problems repeatedly raised—ones that both the current and former DAP MPs failed to resolve—I would have urged him to stand in Damansara, especially after my many complaints and gesture of goodwill to the DAP parliamentarians.

When they finally came to discuss the problem amicably, problem was solved within just a day! But why can’t they just emulate their colleague, Tn Mokhtar Affandi, landscape director? The YDP should by right follow the good example set by the Datuk Bandar of Petaling Jaya.

It is not only the problematic humps or illegal dumps, but also other issues such as one-size fit all solution such as one-way streets which MPS implemented that makes residents suffer. At one junction, for example, at Jalan Desa 1/5, Aman Puri, vehicles coming from 4 or 5 directions criss cross at this junction. Even special officer to Deputy Prime Minister, Neow Choo Seong has seen it, but did nothing about it despite being told about it.

I’ve also raised another complaint which the Damansara parliamentarian should put his finger to follow through the traffic flow. He would immediately see the chaos caused by the one-way system—it’s a complete mess! Till now, unfortunately, he has remained unresponsive to complaints which is why I have no choice but to put on record my frustration with these politicians I once supported.

In reality, the area has turned into a cowboy town; at night, the supposed one-way street inexplicably operates as a two-way. To make matters worse, the Residents’ Association chairman has ordered the entrance to be closed to everyone, including residents, after midnight.

Listen to whose name is mentioned here. All three parties should be responsible, no? Also check this out: https://surat-terbuka-mb-selangor.blogspot.com/2025/05/untuk-perhatian-ahli-parlimen-

The other latest issue was when yellow boxes were painted at junctions along Persiaran KIP 2 but not the one at one or the housing estate. Fortunately, in this case, the engineering chief instructed his men to create the yellow box, but why can’t the council staff do things right the first time (quoting Phil Crosby)?

This whole story shows the failure at every level to introduce reforms after nearly 20 years in power, especially those directly related to the municipality.

Tell me why I should turn up at the voting station to vote for the party I only gladly voted for nearly 40 years. If only everyone was like Dr Tan Seng Giaw! I am ready to give the credit to whoever solves these issues.
