Lackadaisical attitude has set in
I have always thought that YB Rajiv Rishyakaran is a good state assemblyman.
Although a constituent and journalist friend of mine used to complain about him, I defended him.
But not now. After over a month I highlighted to him about a dangerous corner like this, I am just as disappointed with the lackadaisical attitude that I see.
It looks like after two or three terms as elected representatives, these state assemblymen lose their motivation to serve the people.
I do not even live in Petaling Jaya but I noticed many of then blindspots created by landscaping people from local councils.
After more than a month, I noticed nothing is done to rectify the problem which is well with Rajiv’s constituency.
This is my little contribution to help improve the quality of life for his constituents who have to bear with such blind spots. He does not even need to be on the ground and he can already monitor the performance of his local councillor.
While waiting for MBPJ to remove the blindspots from junctions like this, accidents can happen. Anyone who is hit by an oncoming car can lodge a police report and claim a hefty amount from MBPJ for its negligence. At the same time, this should be reported in the media to get the attention of the more senior people in the hierarchy.
Rajiv should realise what a blind spot is, and seek to immediately instruct his councillor to get MBPJ to rectify the problem, not wait for accidents to happen. After all, he is an elected representative of the people.
If he thunks his job is to create policies, this should have been written as policy: no landscaping that causes a blind spot should be allowed.
He should not expect me to be doing his work but reporting it in the Selangor system for complaints (STAR).
Years ago I was enthusiastic about the state’s complaints system. So, I keyed in a number of the complaints that I had previously written to the local council and Elected Representatives.
I discovered the complaints were responded to with the standard answers such as “No budget” and “Under investigation.” For that reason, I stopped using it.
The only way is to highlight in the media. That was the reason why I became a stringer with Malay Mail where I could get a lot of people’s issues solved.
Pakatan Harapan especially in Selangor no longer has the excuse like in the past, where the state and federal governments were under Barisan Nasional.
Now all three tiers are under PH. Even rhe minister and state exco are both from DAP whose party Rajiv is a member of.
For him to ask me to lodge a complaint with the Selangor STAR complaints system is I would say too much. You don’t expect people to be doing the job your councillors are paid to look into.
The problem I see with PH elected representatives is that they have been influenced too much by Tony Pua’s “no longkang” MPs. This is the biggest flaw that caused a big disconnect and it creates a big chasm between the elected representatives and the constituents.
How can an elected representative of the people focus on policy when they don’t even bother about people’s problems, Tony?
Is this the reason why even Kit said you lost your chairmanship in Selangor because you have kept yourself away from the ordinary people in Selangor who brought to you their flash floods, clogged drains, illegal dumps and roads riddled with potholes? Is your successor also following your footsteps? Time to wake up, PH in Selangor!
An elected representative is only as good as he is able to solve problems on the ground.
Perhaps you should use this junction between Jalan Prof Ungku Aziz and Jalan Dato Abu Bakar more often. I pity those living in Section 17 who have to use this junction to get to Sprint Highway. And don’t ask me how many accidents.
A wrong needs to be corrected not defended. Period.
After this post was viraled out, finally MBPJ did something about the blindspot at the road junction. They trimmed part of the hedge, but the point is not about the little overgrown hedge.
The point is about blindspots at road junctions that can potentially cause accidents! This is a policy matter that the State Assemblyman YB Rajiv should bring before the State Exco. With both state exco in charge of local government from the same party, I do not understand why this is being overlooked.
There are a number of other things that MBPJ does that can become blindspots causing accidents. Examples are stated here below:
Jalan Utara, Petaling Jaya. Why put the road railings that cannot be seen through? It creates a blindspot.
