Selangorians are disappointed with the 25% hike in assessment rates
Despite being the richest state in Malaysia, many of the citizens of this state are still struggling to provide for all the needs of their families.
Many are still miserable, especially the elderly. During the Covid-19 pandemic, the Selangor State Government did not even give any assessment tax discount to the people of Selangor that it claims to “love.”
The People Are Miserable Now
For 20 years, the Selangor Government is governed by Pakatan Harapan, finally the same as the Barisan Nasional era where the people’s objections to the raise in assessment rates are no longer the priority.
During the time of Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim, with his “merakyatkan Ekonomi Selangor”, the Selangor government with most of the reform-minded leaders was a beacon of hope for Malaysia, but in my opinion, it has deteriorated since the time of former Menteri Besar Azmin Ali.
When I saw these two bins in the area under the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) recently, I see what these residents received from Alam Flora over the past 20 years.
In our area under the Selayang Municipal Council (MPS), there is not even a single bin!
All that we were told were the specifications given by the council before 2008 where we were asked to buy the bin from the council. It is much more expensive than the normal bin that can be purchased from the market.
Both the Seremban Municipal Council and the Seberang Perai Municipal Council, which were previously at the same level as MPS, have now become the Seremban City Council and the Seberang Perai City Council.
Where does the public money go to the point that there is no budget all these years for garbage bins? The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has been asked to conduct an urgent investigation into all city councils, municipal councils and district councils.
I saw in Seremban, every house is also provided with garbage bins. The same is true in the state of Penang where the cleanliness of the island is maintained very well, and the state has returned to being a state that has a strong attraction for domestic and foreign tourists.
Meanwhile, many places in the state of Selangor are still not well-maintained. It is not because KDEB is not doing its job of cleaning up the rubbish, but the council's failure to monitor the cleanliness of the area.
Local Councillors need to work more diligently if they have been appointed; if not, they should be dropped but in my opinion, the parties they belong to no longer care about the complaints of the people.
All the complaints in this blog have been reported to every level of local government and state government but where is the action taken to solve the problems faced by the people?
Why is it necessary for complaints to reach this level before the council takes action to correct what has not been done properly? Don't they care anymore about Zero Complaints, ensuring that, before people complain, the problem has been properly resolved?
Objection
Please read the complaint of a Selangor citizen who is in his 60s:
Objections were made during the feedback meetings regarding the hike if assessment rates a couple of months ago but were no longer heard because their ears were deaf. That is the recurring problem and I am sure Selangorians can’t wait for the 2027 general election.
The Selangor government representatives keep saying that the 25% increase is too low, but don't they understand that what the Madani Government is giving us as a token every year should not be taken away from us? Not just once a year, but every year especially when we are already senior citizens and retirees or near-retirement.
The PH leaders who were initially based on the spirit of reform since before 2008 have been replaced by leaders who are less concerned about the suffering of the people. There is no difference now with the government under the Barisan Nasional before 2008.
Although we were asked to channel our objections to the local government before the state government made a decision, many were not even informed about the invitation. The email initially sent was not sent to everyone, and many did not know about the objection meeting.
That is why many have lost trust in Selangor leaders today and this is made worse by the 25% hike in assessment rates, which is a burden on the people.
I end this blog with a complaint received by an elderly person living in Putrajaya. Finally, if the Selangor Government still does not understand the heartbeat of the people of Selangor, and thinks we will forget this episode by the 15th GE, we will not hesitate to remove the PH government in Selangor like what happened to the BN government in 2008.
For me, the 15th GE, although I still support PH at the federal level because of the leadership of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim (PMX), I will no longer vote for the Bukit Lanjan state assemblyman.
However, if the MP from Pakatan Harapan who is deaf to the problems of the local people is still retained, I may have to vote for other representatives.
One term is enough for me to see the performance of the Damansara MP. This is what I feel about the state of Selangor since Azmin Ali’s era, and especially since this blog was opened.
Please read this blog to see everything that has been written here. Because of what has happened in the state of Selangor during this time under the leadership of PH, I had to take the time to write in this blog.
The Honourable Prime Minister must ensure that only those who have the interests of the people at heart are given positions, and not just anyone in the parties according to their position.
Since PH has become the government, many "biawak" and "buaya" will join the PH parties and wait for the opportunity to hold positions.
